Nent Hall Weekend

The The Nent Hall Weekend on the 16th,17th and 18th of September was a great success, club members from Durham and South Yorkshire MG Clubs met up with other friends of members to take over the Nent Hall Hotel near Alston for a weekend of fun and fantastic runs in beautiful countryside. The weather on the Friday morning was

very wet when I was leaving so opted to take my MG ZT, big mistake really, the sun came out and we had a hot sunny weekend, I was tempted to drive home and swap it for the TF.

Maureen and I met up with Maurice and Margaret Scott, Brian and Ivy Swallow and Reg and Babs at the Durham Dales Centre in Stanhope. After afternoon refreshments we set off for the short drive up to Nenthead and the Nent Hall Hotel where we reciveived a warm welcome from the manageress Naomi.

The Friday night dinner was entertaining as all 36 of us filled the hotel dining room where Reg Barratt and Steve Overall explained the Saturday run to the Lakeland Motor Museum and returning via Kirkstone Pass and Ullswater.

The motor museum was fascinating with lots of different exhibits including this blue TVR number 2 which actually belonged to a member of the South Yorks MG Club.

There was also a special exhibition dedicated to Donald Campbell with full size replicas as well as the original cars and boats he achieved his world records in.

The museum also boasted a very nice coffee shop and as most of the ladies didn’t want to look at old cars etc. so it was a good place for them to while away a couple of hours in the sun.

After another entertaining night in the hotel we grouped in the carpark for the farewell run home following the Roman Wall to Corbridge and afternoon tea before going our separate ways. It was a great weekend many thanks to Reg and Steve as well as all the rest who helped to make it such a success we must do it again.
